Moms are having children at older ages today according to the Census data in the U.S.

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Did you know that women between the ages of 40-44 are the fastest-growing age group for new mothers?  Wow!  I knew many women today are having them at an older age, but I hadn’t realized that so many between that age were first time moms! I do know many celebrities are having children at older ages when I hear it in the news.

We had our first when I was 34. We now have four young children (my youngest is just 10 months old) and when I was that age, I thought I was an older mom.  Before I ever said anything to the nurse at my first OBGYN appoinment she said, “I just want to tell you that you are a young mom”.  That made me feel good! She said many of her first time moms were on average 38 years old.

Today, moms are eating healthier and we are living healthier lifestyles.  This helps us to not only feel good, but helps with fertility. Proper weight (not too thin and not too overweight), eating healthier foods, exercise and nutritional supplements all help us with our fertility and having healthy babies.

Stay at home moms are worth $138,095!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

A new report on how much the average stay at home mom would receive if she were to be paid for all the jobs she does shows her worth to be $138,095.  If you think of all the different jobs a mom does throughout the day, she would need to be paid for jobs such as cook, housekeeper, laundry machine operator, computer operator, chief executive officer, janitor, van driver, day care center teacher (not to mention elementary school teacher such as home schooling moms like myself) and psychologist.  The days are long and the typical moms puts in a 92 hour work week!  She would receive 40 hours at base pay and 52 hours overtime. Moms working full time outside of the home would receive an additional $85,939.00 for the work she does at home according to the study (I wonder if that goes for moms such as myself who also work in the home?)!

Moms definitely have one of the most difficult jobs, but also one of the most rewarding jobs (if not the most rewarding) job in the world!  Without a mom, we would never have some of the great men/women who have led our country.  They attribute a lot to what their mom did for them and taught them growing up. Hug your mom today and wish her a wonderful Happy Mothers Day and if you are a mom, I wish you a wonderful Mothers Day!
