Be careful to always read your labels!

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Last weekend we had our two year old in the emergency room for ingestion of methyl alcohol which can be fatal or cause life long blindness. It was very scary! Thankfully, he was okay after they checked his blood for toxicity and watched him for several hours.

I had purchased a product for my daughters. They love to have their nails painted, but I wanted something that would not be harmful to them. The product I purchased is advertised as non-toxic and natural as mud. It also says that it is not harmful to children and hypoallergetic. I purchased both the nail polish and remover for them.

Apparently, the girls had the remover out of the closet and my little guy thought it was a bottle of water. It had no odor to it. I neglected to ever read the ingredients. I went by what the label told me - non-toxic and natural as mud. The poison control center as well as the doctor was stunned by such a label. It actually had a high concentration of fatal methyl alcohol in it!

As a parent, we must always read our labels. Never go by what is advertised! I am a mom that reads every food label and trusted the label of this product that it was safe for our little children. I came out with my organic moses baskets (100% certified organic) just for this reason. Many companies (and there is one in particular that sells a lot of them) advertise organic moses baskets and use polyester in their bedding. It’s ahsame that they do this to parents! In addition, this company recently took some of my original ideas for their own and are now selling them to other companies. It’s terrible that this happens. In addition to selling things that are cheaply made (and without organic materials), they are now also taking ideas of mine (but making cheapened products) and put a picture up of an organic moses basket that looks almost identical to mine.

Always know your ingredients and be on the lookout for cheaply made imitations as well. Unfortunately, many companies are out there to make money and not as interested in the safety of our children.

Our new organic Amish moses baskets arrived today!

Our new Amish organic moses basket just came in the mail today - straight from Amish country and it is beautiful! Everything is organic - handmade here in the USA and woven/created by the Amish. We are so pleased with it and excited to offer it very shortly. Even the wood we sourced is grown right here in the USA and is from a renewable forest. The wood has never been sprayed or grown with any chemicals! We are very happy to also be supporting the Amish community. They are old order Amish that do not even use electricity and weave the baskets to support their families. Now when you purchase a basket, you know that there is no chance of it being sprayed when it comes into the country. You can also have your babies basket signed and dated and have their name written on it!! What a wonderful heirloom piece - I am so excited about it! I want to have a baby again!

A time of thanksgiving and the blessing of being a mom

Monday, November 10th, 2008

It’s hard to believe that it is almost Thanksgiving and soon Christmas.  It is one of my favorite times of the year.  I think about how blessed I am to be a mom of four adorable children and thank God for everything that He has given me. I am so thankful to be able to home school my children and work from home.  He has given me so wonderful customers as well and I am thankful to each one.

I make many friends through my business.  In the last two days I spoke to customers that are in the process of adopting or have adopted children recently. I hope to one day give children a home that do not have one as well.

Thank you to all my wonderful customers!  Enjoy this time of year with the ones you love.  God Bless you and your family.

Moms are having children at older ages today according to the Census data in the U.S.

Did you know that women between the ages of 40-44 are the fastest-growing age group for new mothers?  Wow!  I knew many women today are having them at an older age, but I hadn’t realized that so many between that age were first time moms! I do know many celebrities are having children at older ages when I hear it in the news.

We had our first when I was 34. We now have four young children (my youngest is just 10 months old) and when I was that age, I thought I was an older mom.  Before I ever said anything to the nurse at my first OBGYN appoinment she said, “I just want to tell you that you are a young mom”.  That made me feel good! She said many of her first time moms were on average 38 years old.

Today, moms are eating healthier and we are living healthier lifestyles.  This helps us to not only feel good, but helps with fertility. Proper weight (not too thin and not too overweight), eating healthier foods, exercise and nutritional supplements all help us with our fertility and having healthy babies.
